All of our adults are Genetically Health Tested using Embark. While Embark tests for over 260 Genetic Health Risks we focus on the Breed Relevant Risks. We make sure our Adults are either clear or not expected to develop signs and symptoms from the specific variants* for the following six breed-relevant conditions: Congenital Cornification Disorder, Intervertebral Disc Disease (Type I), Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis 7 NCL 7, Progressive Retinal Atrophy crd4/cord1, Progressive Retinal Atrophy prcd, and Spinocerebellar Ataxia with Myokymia and/or Seizures.
Regarding Physical Health Testing (Phenotypic) and registering those results with OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals). The OFA, working with the breed's parent club, will recommend basic health screening tests for all breeding stock. All of our new AKC hopefuls will be getting tested for the following three recommended tests: Standard Congenital Cardiac Exam, ACVO Eye Examination and Veterinary Evaluation of Patellar Luxation. Results will be registered with OFA. Once we have these results we intend on supplying them.
Fun Fact (From Good Dog) to aid in understanding: Genetic versus phenotypic – and why it's important to understand the difference. There are generally two different types of tests that can be performed, genetic health tests and phenotypic testing: Genetic health tests can be performed on the DNA of dogs to screen for the presence of certain disease-causing mutations. Phenotypic tests include physical examinations by veterinarians (or in some cases, specialist veterinarians) and diagnostic tests such as x-rays and ultrasounds.

Natalie: My love for Chihuahuas started at a very young age. Growing up my grandparents owned a little chihuahua named JJ. I was there with them when they got him and ever since that very first day he and I were inseparable. When I would have a sleepover at my grandparent's house I would wait for everyone to go to sleep and then I would sneak out and get JJ out of his bed (in the laundry room) and bring him into my room where my grandparents always knew they would find us in the morning. JJ and I were best buddies!
Tyler: My passion for chihuahuas began in 2003 at Evergreen Speedway when a friend who bred chihuahuas brought one of her dogs to the track and I really got to see the true essence of the breed. After spending time with them at their house with all their dogs, I was all in. After a period of time I ended up with three chihuahuas that changed my life in the best possible way. They became family and they went everywhere with me including the race track every week which ended up being great for their socialization with people and other dogs. With their fierce loyalty to each other and family, to their hysterical antics, I became head over heels for the breed.
Between the two of us it was only natural for us to want to raise chihuahuas. The breed means so much to us that we decided that we wanted to do everything we could to raise Quality, Healthy and Happy Chihuahuas. Our goal is to maintain the breed standard to aid in preserving the breed in years to come.
Our Chihuahuas are adopted quickly, so reach out to reserve your future best friend or to ask any questions.
